Dr. Mike Jackson -
Head Coach/Athletic Director

Coach Jackson has 27 years’ experience as an Athletic Director/Head Football Coach.  During this time, he has compiled a record of 196-105-4.  This includes 2 State Championships and 21 playoff appearances.  He has led 5 different schools to the playoffs and 4 different schools to the 4th round.  Coach Jackson has been named District Coach of the Year eight times and has served as the Head Coach of the Bayou Bowl (2012), Space City Classic (2010) and the GHFCA Bowl (2014) All-Star games.  Coach Jackson was named Galveston County Coach of the Year three times, in 2011, 2012 & 2015, as well as being named Houston Texans "Coach of the Week" in 2011, 2015 & 2017.  He is a Past-President for the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association (2011-2012) and has had 13 assistants move up to head football positions, 3 move up to AD positions and 1 become a superintendent.  He has his B.A. from St. Edward's University in Physical Education/History (1990), an M.A. from Southwest Texas State in Athletic Administration (1991), an M.Ed. in Educational Administration from the University of Houston-Victoria (1994), and his Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from California Coast University (2001).  In the spring of 2017 he was inducted into the Ronnie Bell Hall of Honor which is part of the Houston Sports Hall of Fame.  He is married to Tracey Jackson and has three children Mariah (13), Jericho (9) and Maverick (3).

Aaron Johnson -
Assistant Head Coach/Offensive Line Coach/Strength Coach

Coach Johnson is entering his Third season with Grand Oaks, and his 15th season coaching football.  Prior to Grand Oaks, during his tenure at Aldine MacArthur, Coach Johnson served various roles including Offensive Coordinator, Offensive Line, Running Backs and JV Head Coach.  Before Coach Johnson’s move to Texas, he coached quarterbacks at Mankato West High School in Minnesota.  Coach Johnson earned his Master of Education Administration from Lamar University in 2015, and his Bachelor of Arts from Minnesota State, Mankato in 2006.   He has been married to his beautiful wife, Cassie for 5 years, and has one son, Bryce (2), and one daughter Skylar (1).

Eric Joyce -
Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks Coach

Coach Joyce has 12 years’ experience coaching football.  Nine of those seasons, he led his teams to playoff appearances.  During the 2014 season, Coach Joyce and the La Marque Cougars advanced to the third round of the playoffs.  Coach Joyce has coached in the GHFCA Bowl and the EPS All American Game at AT&T Stadium as well as presented alongside Coach Jackson at the Gateway to Mexico Coaches Clinic in 2014.  Coach Joyce has followed in the footsteps of the educators in his family. He was named the Grand Oaks Teacher of the Year for the 2019-20 school year.  His uncle, Larry Peil, coached in Cy-Fair and retired as the Athletic Director of Cy-Fair ISD. His mom, Paulette, also retired from her position as a Special Education Coordinator from Cy-Fair ISD.  Several other members of his family currently hold administrative and teaching positions.  Coach Joyce graduated from Cy-Fair High School and earned his Bachelors in Exercise and Sports Science from Texas State University.  Coach Joyce believes that his disciplined work ethic, his ability to build relationships with students/athletes and eagerness to learn contributes to his success.  His career began at the middle school level, and he's proud to bear the position of Assistant Football Coach of Grand Oaks High School.  Go Grizzlies!!!

Justin Garrison -
Defensive Coordinator/Linebackers Coach

Coach Garrison is entering his 9th year in coaching and his 3rd season with the Grizzlies.  Prior to Grand Oaks, he spent six seasons at Willis High School serving as the defensive coordinator for his last three seasons.  At Willis, he helped the Wildkats achieve back to back playoff appearances as well as three straight winning seasons for only the fourth time in school history.  Coach Garrison graduated from Sam Houston State University (2012), with a bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology and a minor in history.  He also received his master’s degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University (2015).   Prior to coaching, Coach Garrison worked in the private sector in management.  He is married to his wife Afton, who is a teacher and Assistant Golf Coach at Grand Oaks and they have one son, Garett (14). 

James Higham -
Special Teams Coordinator/Safeties Coach

Coach Higham will be starting his 13th year teaching and 15th season coaching.  He attended Sam Houston State University and played football for the Bearkats as a walk-on.  As a walk-on, he was a 4-year letterman for Coach Ron Randleman as a defensive back.  At Grand Oaks, Coach Higham serves as the DB Coach, Special Teams Coordinator, and Head Girls Track coach.  He is married to Lyndsey Higham and has a daughter (Jacksyn Rayne Higham) who is entering the 2nd  grade.

Trey Rodriguez - 
Recruiting Coordinator/Cornerbacks Coach

Coach Trey Rodriguez will be starting his 9th season teaching/coaching and his 2nd at grand oaks. His year he takes over as the Head Boy’s Track Coach.  In 2006, Trey graduated from Spring Woods High School in Spring Branch, TX.  He then received his bachelor’s in education from Houston Baptist University.  During his time as a Husky, he finished in the top 3 standings in the shot put and hammer throw for the Great West Conference Track & Field Championships.  His coaching career started in Cleveland HS and thus landed him an opportunity to help open Adline's newest high school, Benjamin O Davis High as the Run Game/Strength & Conditioning coordinator and Head Boys Track Coach.  He helped the Falcons reach the playoffs five seasons in a row and multiple boys' track district/area championships, with relay teams earning bronze at the state meet two years in a row.  Who are we, CURRAHEE!

Ryland Bailey -
Wide Receivers Coach
Coach Bailey is entering into his 23rd season of coaching football and his 2nd at Grand Oaks.  He graduated from Tarleton State University and was a Collegiate All-American wide receiver.  Coach Bailey came to Grand Oaks from Humble High School but has also had successes in Aldine, CyFair, Klein, and Fort Bend throughout his career. He has been married to his wife Sharon, a Conroe ISD graduate from Oak Ridge in 1997, for 15 years who teaches 6th grade English at Clark Intermediate. He also has two children: a daughter Graye (11) and a son Ryder (8). 
Clayton Callicutt -
Defensive Tackles Coach

Coach Callicutt is a Graduate of Crosby High School where he was a first team all-district defensive lineman as well as a member of the Texas Sports Writers Association All-State Team.  He Played under Coach Jackson in the 2012 Bayou Bowl, which ended in a 23-23 tie Texas vs. Louisiana.  Coach Played under Will Wagner at Angelo State University from 2012-2015 where he would garner the Freshman of the Year in 2012 as well as the Defensive Lineman of the Year and All-American Honors in 2014-2015.  He Had the honor to participate in Minicamps with the Chicago Bears and the Saskatchewan Roughriders of the Canadian Football League in 2016-2017.  Coach Callicutt Earned a B.A. in History from Angelo State University in 2018.  He is the Son of Johnathan Callicutt who at one time was the Offensive Coordinator at C.E. King High School from 1999-2009.  “My passion for helping and improving young people’s lives stems from the amazing coaches and players that I have had the honor to be around over the course of my entire life. I am excited for the opportunity to change the lives of many through the game of football and to build the characteristics of a young man through the game that I love so much.”  #CURRAHEE

Steven Ochoa -
Running Backs Coach

Coach Ochoa is entering his 7th year of coaching, and his first at Grand Oaks. Previously, he coached Wide Receivers at Clear Lake HS. He helped lead them to consecutive playoff appearances and victories in 2017 and 2018. He earned his Bachelors in Kinesiology-Sports Administration from the University of Houston in 2017. While attending UH, he served as an offensive assistant at St. Pius X HS. He is engaged to his beautiful fiancé T’iara.

Joe Danzer -
Defensive Ends Coach

This will be Joe’s 12th year of coaching football and his first year of coaching high school football.  Before joining the Grand Oaks program, Joe was the head football coach and athletic coordinator at Hoffman Middle School in Aldine ISD for 5 years. Since 2017, Joe has been the head football coach at York Junior High in Conroe ISD, helping start the development of football players for Grizzly Nation. Joe is originally from Dubuque IA and attended The University of Dubuque where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Education. Joe initially came down to Texas in 2008 to begin his teaching and his coaching career.  Joe is the first person in his family to pursue coaching as his career and has not looked back since settling in Texas. Competition and sports are big in the Danzer house, Joe still trains and competes in Strongman Competitions and his wife of 2 ½ years is the Head Girls Basketball Coach at MacArthur Highs School in Aldine ISD, so there is no lack of competition between the both of them.

Jimmy Burleson -
Defensive Assistant/Head Freshman Coach

Coach Burleson will be beginning his first year at Grand Oaks High School.  He is a graduate of Kermit HS and played football at Angelo State University.  He received a BS degree in Physical Education and History from ASU.  Coach Burleson will enter his 34th year of coaching and brings experience from Ingram, Tulia, New Caney, and Willis.  He will be coaching PE and teaching Teen Leadership classes at Grand Oaks.  Coach Burleson and his wife, Cindy, have a son, Jayden. 

Travis Maxey -
Assistant Offensive Line/Tight Ends/Freshman Coach

Coach Maxey enters his 3rd year coaching at Grand Oaks High School. Prior to GOHS, Maxey coached middle school for 12 years in Spring ISD. Maxey will be an Assistant Offensive Line/Tight End coach for the Grizzlies, as well as Assistant Basketball coach. A 2003 graduate of the Sam Houston State University, Maxey played center for the Bearkats during 2000-2003, helping the team win 2001 Southland Conference championship. The Waco, TX., native attended Waco High School where he was a 3-year letterman in Football and Track. Coach Maxey has two boys, Braeden (8) and Brody (6). #CURRAHEE

Nathan Boyd -
Offensive Assistant/Freshman Coach

Coach Boyd is entering his 14th year of coaching and his 1st season with Grand Oaks High School. Coach Boyd is coming to GOHS from York Jr High and has coached his teams to multiple district titles in football, basketball and track at Spring (where he was also the Head Track Coach), New Caney and Conroe ISD.   He is a native of Port Arthur, Texas but graduated from Huntsville High School.  Coach Boyd also graduated from Sam Houston State University (2000) with a Bachelor's Degree in Food Science / Nutrition and a Minor in Business.  He is also a veteran of the United States Air Force having served in both Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm.  Coach Boyd and his wife, Jennifer, has two children: a son Thorin (20) and daughter Caitlyn (14)

Jeremy Willis -
Defensive Assistant/Freshman Coach

Coach Willis is in his 19th season of coaching.  He is a native of Spring, Texas graduating from Spring High School in 1996.  After high school, he graduated with a degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Special Education from Sam Houston State University. Coach Willis was the head Baseball Coach at Spring High School during 2019 season where he compiled an overall record of (18-9) and district record of (13-1) and led his team to 16-6A District Championship and State Playoffs.  During the 2019 baseball year, Coach Willis was named District 16-6A “Coach of the Year”.  During his time at Spring High School, Coach Willis worked with the Freshman corners and safeties. In 2014 he helped coach the Lions to the Regional Semifinal Playoff Game.  Coach Willis and his wife Andrea have a 13-year-old son, Logan. 

Zed Anigwe -
Offensive Assistant/Freshman Coach

Coach Anigwe graduated in 2009 with a Bachelors of Kinesiology from Huston-Tillitson University, where he competed on the baseball field as a starting pitcher and outfielder. He has been involved with youth sports for the past 14 years, coaching competitive teams from the ages of 12-18.  He is beginning his 2nd year working with the Crizzly football program. 

Todd Matz -
Head Athletic Trainer

Todd is entering his 18th year as an athletic trainer and his 3rd year as Head Athletic Trainer here at Grand Oaks.  Prior to Grands Oaks High School, Todd has worked at Marlin High School, Galveston Ball and was at Westfield High School for 12 years.  For the past 4 years, Todd has served on the Greater Houston Football Coaches Association Executive Board and has served as a North Representative of the Greater Houston Athletic Trainers Association in the past. He earned his Undergraduate and Master’s Degree from Western Illinois University.  He is married to his wife Monica for seven years and has four dogs.

Essence Ephran -
Athletic Trainer

Ms. Ephran is entering her 3rd year with Grand Oaks High School. She is a Houston native and Texas State University Alumna, graduating top of her class in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. Ms. Ephran is excited to be at Grand Oaks High School and share her knowledge and expertise in hopes that it produces health and success across Grizzly athletics and within our community.

Tim Woodstock -
Athletic Trainer

Tim is entering his 5th year as an athletic trainer and his first year at Grand Oaks High School. Prior to Grand Oaks Tim was an assistant athletic trainer at Lindenwood University-Belleville. While at Lindenwood his main responsibilities were men’s and women’s ice hockey as well as football. Tim received his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri in 2010 in health sciences and his master’s degree from Texas Tech in 2015 in athletic training.
